Not sure which waters you refer to, but certainly Town Lake (aka LadyBird Lake) bans the use of the big gas motor, not the trolling motor, unless you have the special permit from City Authorities to burn gas on the lake. Probably a certain pucker could get that permit (like the rowing clubs have acquired), but my lips won't seem to cooperate. Most of the other water around is trollable. Try Decker (aka Walter E. Long) if you'd like to troll up some hybrids, or Travis by Mansfield Dam if you'd like to try for bona fide stripers. Buchanan offers the best bet for unperturbed trolling, but the wind can test your "craft" if you know what I mean. From where do you hail? Trolling is not so popular here as it is up north. Except for the Buchanan guides that pursue striper, few will admit to commiting this crime, although I for one, Dez for two, and Brandon, and a handful of others, do enjoy to troll from time to time.

I've trolled Town Lake in my yak, but haven't managed to catch any fish yet. Did almost catch the swimmer who decided to swim right across my stern last weekend though...

Tell us a bit more about your craft and you may get better suggestions. To be really successful trolling you need to locate concetrations of fish and you'll prolly have a hard time on Buch unless you have a good sized motor and electronics. Decker might be pretty good with a small craft and so could the areas around Pace Bend.

Any suggestions for lures to troll on Town Lake? Seems like anything I tried last week would get hung in weeds pretty quick...

 

Trolling is great! Hope to learn more. What i love about it is you can take the kiddos and not spend the whole time baiting/helping cast etc, etc.

 

It's a bit far but Lakes Braunig and Calaveras are great for trolling freshwater Reds. Downriggers and gold spoons.
