Our 36th wedding anniversary was this week and so we took a trip down to Choke with two other couples from the Mr. and Mrs. Bass Club. The friendship and fun were great!
We arrived a little earlier that anticipated on Friday and so got on the water at about 5:30 p.m. At 6:50 p.m. I caught my first double digit! An 11.4 in three feet of water on a pumpkin Minda Spear worm. She was about 3 feet away from a tree and I think that I shook for about an hour after we got her in the boat. Shortly after, my husband caught a 6.13 on the another pumpkin Spear worm.
We fished on Saturday morning and got two, three and four pounders on Spear worms and flukes. Got off the water at noon, took a nap and had dinner in our motel room.
At 5:30-6:00 p.m. we went out again. There was a nice breeze on the water. I caught a 1 pounder and then a 3 pounder on a Lake Fork watermelon-red ring fry and Joe asked me for a couple. The moon showed up at about 8:00 p.m. and then he caught a 12.0 on the ring fry! She was in about 5-6 feet, in a tree and had not yet spawned.
We were fishing in the north coves, an area between three fingers and four fingers. There is grass there but our largest fish were not in the grass.
This morning, my husband caught a 8.5 in about 2 feet, off a point!
Prior to this great weekend my largest bass was 9.1 (caught on Choke on May 2 of this year) and my husband's was a 9.5, caught in March on Lake Fork.
We had a wonderful time with our friends. It was a weekend we will never forget!
