Decided to go to Travis based on fishing reports here and a guide's reports...and I was tired of catching 5" fish. Left the house at 7:45 (early for me) and when I got on 195 the fog was dangerous. Visibility not safe. Back home I went. Watched the tv weather that was discussing it. Left again at 8:45 and it was ok. I wanted to go to some more remote parks, Sandy Creek and Cypress I think, but the ramps were not open so had to go to Mansfield Park at the dam. Used Google Maps since I hadn't been there. Soon after I started she said something like "rerouted due to road closure, you're on the fastest route". That didn't work out too well. I ended up in a neighborhood of private drives and narrow road. I was going up a hill and here comes a large box truck coming down. Not even close to enough room for us to pass. I had to back a long way to find a place I could pull over to let him pass. I flagged down a man that was coming down the hill and he said there was no where to turn around up the hill, only private drives. He said the best thing for me to do was keep backing until I could turn around, then the next left was the park road. Another long back and finally got turned around and headed to the park. At the entrance a cute young lady said $12 please...I said don't seniors get a discount? She said oh you're a senior? I said yes. I'm 74 so I guess that was a compliment. She said $10 please...I said don't seniors get free trailer parking? She said that's right $3 please. She had a basket on a pole to take the money and give me the pass. So finally I launched. Only a handful of boats in the parking lot. Ran to that first major arm that goes off to the right and stopped at a stretch of boat docks. Started fishing at 10:20. Second cast with a dropshot with a hand poured flatworm yielded a nice hard pullin' fish. Caught two more off the next dock. Fished here and there and ended up with eight when I quit at around 2:00. Most came from docks. All came on the dropshot flatworm. Tried a Keitech and neko for a little while. Very satisfied with the catch for the hours fished and the fact I hadn't been on Travis for 10 years and had never been to that end. But the wake boat traffic was UNREAL!!! Doesn't anyone work?? Not going back to that end anytime soon. Water was 79º when I left and two more wake boats were launching.
