Went back to see what was happening. I know the good spring shallow fishing is winding down but there are still some good fish in the spawning mode. Usual late start with first cast at 10:30. Handful of trailers in the parking lot but not as many as usual for a weekday. For the first time this spring I started to worry about getting the skunk. Didn't catch a fish or get a bite before lunch at 12:50. I saw several good fish near beds but they were really skittish. Finally caught a good one (first photo) on drop shot with the "Bug", a prototype lure I'm making. Time stamp on photo was 1:15. Had eight rods on the deck and maybe getting spun out. Kept trying my best for nothing. A little background here, this summer I am taking my boat to Spokane, Washington to take my grandkids fishing. In preparation I poured a bunch of Flatworms in watermelon/red. Last time I fished with grandsons I had them drag around a small worm and they caught fish. I pulled out the flatworm on a 1/16 oz crappie slider jig head. I used the Charlie Brewer do nothing method and caught a bass right away. Soon caught another, but a dink. I went to another completely different area to fish for bass that were not spawning. I was rewarded right away with a nice hard puller (second photo). I stuck with that the rest of the day. At around 3:00 I put all other rods away. Clicked 18 by the time I called last cast at 5:24. I feel really blessed that I tried that little 3.6" worm and it worked. Back in the day I fished Slider Worms a lot and caught a lot of fish on them. I was reminded of a time long ago that I was fishing a tournament on Cedar Creek. I had pre-fished and caught some really good fish on the dam. Was using 6" Zipper worms on a Texas rig. Didn't catch a fish on tournament day. A young guy from our club won by fishing a Slider Worm on the dam. Water was 79º-80º.

Don't see Spokane throwing in a post around these parts very often. Grew up about 2 hours south of there towards Walla Walla. Hammered perch at a lake near Pasco back in September. We probably put 100+ in the boat that day. I even pinched off a third of a senko and hooked it on a 4/0 just dangling there. They didn't care.

I've had the boat there a couple times. This time I'm fishing Long Lake (Lake Spokane). I have a vrbo about 5 miles from the ramp and 2 miles from my daughter's home. Looking forward to some great smallmouth fishing.
