Went back today to check out the lower end of the lake. I took my time getting there with the plan to stay really late. Back in the day I fished until dark whenever I went. I also know that the pre-spawn bite can be good late in the day. Got a fishing report (sort of), as I was launching a fancy bass boat was loading up. First cast a little before 11:00. Caught a fish right away on the 2.8 Keitech, then another. Caught five by 12:30 and thought this will be a decent day since I had so many hours left to fish. That was not to be. I fished until 4:15 and had only a few nips since 12:30. Just messed up the bait and didn't eat it. I was DONE and abandoned the idea of staying later. Didn't take a photo of a fish because I thought I'd catch many more. The wind gusted to 31 again. I think on the bluebird days the fish bury in the hydrilla and don't have to come out. I cannot figure out how to catch them. Tried so many different things. One interesting observation, I saw three different guys staring at their front deck while fishing. I assume they were looking at live scope. Two of them had 360. One was looking down and throwing a jerk bait just like on TV. Water was 55º-58º. The photo below is an indication of how the fishing was today. There were a bunch of boats when I got there. Any suggestions on how to catch these fish in the hydrilla are welcomed. Forgot to put on my sun gloves today and have painful sunburn on my hands. Guess I need a checklist.

I forgot my ballcap a couple weeks ago. I need to stash a standby ballcap on Todd’s boat. Sucks when you forget something important like that. Without the ballcap, I was spun out before the first cast.

Back when Stillhouse was the only lake open due to Covid, I made several trips there and I have to agree that that is a tricky lake to figure out. The best trip we ever had was when Todd ran up a 10‘ flat full of stickups. He was catching them good with 3.8 paddletail. Neither of us figured out how to get them from the grass. In the summer, a wacky senko at the hydrilla edges will get some bites, but not many on a Texas rig.
