With the water level on LT so high we decided to motor up from Smithwick to below Max Starke. I tried bass fishing along the banks and coves but not even a bump? I see fish all over the Sonar but are they likely to be catfish and carp? I guess this is more like river fishing. Do people catch blacks up there? Different tactics than Lake fishing required?

I may have seen you there that day. It was Apr 25 I think. Seems like I saw a Skeeter.

Obviously I have a lot to learn. In the last few years the only thing I've caught anything on is a watermelon green Texas rigged. I go to Lake Austin and don't even get a BITE. I've been tinkering with drop shotting and I do try spinner baits and crank baits periodically but not with a lot of confidence.

The thing with the Smithwick area is that is such a nice boat ride and I see fish on the sonar everywhere. That weekend I spent quite a bit of time up in creek arms but obviously I'm not doing something right. Maybe the fish are insulted that I'm fishing out of a Kenner bay boat. :-[

The boat doesn't have a thing to do with it. I fished for years out of a kayak back home in West Texas, and won more tournies on Ivie out of it than you can imagine. Don't get me wrong about Smithwick, I have had some tough days up there. But heck that is just fishing. I head up there when the lake starts getting a lot of extra boat traffic, like I don't fish Lake Austin during the weekend either. I like Monday out there. But the fish are there and up til now less molested. Alot of white bass fisherman up there as well as crappie fisherman.

I was just joking about the kenner scaring away the bass. But obviously, I need to learn some new tricks besides Texas watermelon worms if I'm going to catch them. It must take something else. you are correct, that was a hot area during the white runs.

As the water levels drop this will be a bit of a mute point except for John boats and kayaks up there at Smithwick.
