Hit Travis fishing solo yesterday. Not really sure why, but it was a really slow bite. Covered a lot of water and only got seven bites all day. Landed six fish, with two keeping one about 2lbs and a Spot that hit like a freight train but only weighed about 1.5lbs. Saw quite a few boats out, looks like some club might have been having a Tourny.

ATX fished its club tournament Sunday on Travis.  I probably had my worst day on Travis in a couple of years, a 6 1/2 pound limit thanks to being able to weigh in spots.  I caught a fish on my first cast and thought it was going to be a great day.  After several hours without another keeper I started to think the bluebird morning and lack of wind turned them off.  Around noon the wind started blowing and thought the bites going to turn on big time.  I was wrong!  Several very good anglers struggled. We only had one sack over ten pounds, 14 1/2 pounds caught by Dan "Mr. Fishgod" Taylor.  He has been on a serious role lately and earned the ATX 2008 Angler of the Year award.

UPDATED...

Found the FLW report on lures used in cold water.

Pro:
Hastings fished in the same area all week covering all the same water and structure everyday. The only thing he changed was his baits. In the first round, he was throwing tubes and jigs around contour breaks in 15 to 25 feet of water. In the final round his bite changed drastically, forcing him to fish smaller with drop-shot rigs and finesse worms.

Co-Angler: Divis won the tournament using a drop-shot rigged Bassmedics finesse worm in watermelon candy color. He qualified for the final round, however, using a PJ's Finesse Baits 3/4-ounce football head jig - the same bait that has earned him more than $130,000 in his career. Divis fished the jig with a Net Bait Paca chunk trailer.

The water temperature was still 63 degrees Sunday morning after two very cold days. I really think we just hit it on a slow day and would have liked to be out there today with the warmer weather, wind and cloud cover. I don't want to give away Dan's pattern, but he wasn't using a float'n'fly!
