Well we started out Thursday afternoon for a guided hybrid trip on Richland Chambers for Friday. We got there early enough on Thursday to get some bass fishing in. Biggest was 5 on a rattle trap, a few others in the 2 to 3 range. Mostly we fished 5 foot of water on the flats. The big surprise was a 9 pound hybrid foul hooked in the belly. That was a fight on the rod and getting in the boat. (Of course we didn't have the net out) Friday, we got on the water about 7:30 and hit a few humps picking up whites in about 30 foot of water. Mainly slabbing off the bottom. Total day showed proof of 250 or so whites between 6 of us. Mostly not keepers but still fun. Total day yielded us 60 for our efforts for the fry. Pretty awesome fun. Now for the big story. We take off from Richland and head to Fork. Again we get there early we head to a couple of our normal holes and pull a few of the average 3 to 4 pounders. Saturday found us early fishing for bedding fish up on Big Cheney. Wind was picking up and the bite was a little off. Did but one over 7 and one 5. The rest were the norm. Pretty much the rest of the day we were ducking the wind, fishing the outer edges of what everyone else was fishing. My opinion, here, most people fish right up next to the bank for bedding fish in the grass unless they are fishing one of the larger flats. We stayed out a little farther and fished where everyone was running there boat, and caught twice the fish. Anyways, we did lose 2 big fish for the day, rough guess close to 10, the next we never saw. Brother set the hook and snap. Got to love the wood. Sunday as you all know lead to high winds. We took off early from the dam area and caught 3 in about and 1 1/2 hours. Decided we needed to head back this way before the waves got a little more that we could handle. By the time we could get back to the main lake we had 4 to5 foot swells. Made for a lovely trip back. All and all a good late April trip. Assessment, of Fork, is full, watch for the stumps, cloud cover really hurt the late season bed fishing. The front sure didn't held either. But, I am ready to go back maybe next month.
