Those kids from Lamar are sticks, especially Danny Iles. I think they have won half of these in the last 3 years. UT has been struggling lately, can you guys start breeding some super-fishermen and send them to UT? Thanks in advance. We are already recruiting the Bendele boy from Falcon Lake Tackle haha.

Clancy,

At most schools they are clubs or "club sports" like rugby. At UT it is a club sport, so they actually get a little bit of funding from the school and most all have small club dues, I think ours were like $50 a semester. You don't see actual recruiting like you would for a varsity sport and there are no scholarships given. Most Universities in Texas have a team at this point and pretty much all of them perform really well. SFA, Lamar, Texas St., UT, Baylor, Rice, Texas A&M- Kingsvillle, UNT, UTA, Angelo St., UT-Dallas, Texas Tech, Sam Houston St., UT-Tyler, Tarleton St., UT-SA, Texas A&M at Galveston all have teams.

A few clubs have boat sponsors, but most rely on members to provide their own boats. A lot of schools allow kayak fisherman to participate in their club tournaments. As of right now there are 3 governing bodies that put on collegiate tournaments. All of them are free entry and a few of them offer big cash prizes, as well as travel stipends. The FLW and National guard put on the best series IMO because there are cash prizes for each tournament, you don't have to bring a boat, and they give a nice travel stipend. I also fished the Under Armor National Championship, which was pretty fun.

This is way more information than you asked for, but I am pretty passionate about the opportunities I was given and I made lifelong friends because of college fishing. I just wish we had a team my first two years of college!

What UT needs to focus on is a full ride scholarships for Jake Read and Joseph Kennedy ;).

They will account for 2 of your future anglers (may be all you need).
