I went out Friday afternoon because it seemed the wind had really laid down. I launched at 4:30pm and stuck close to the north shoreline. The wind was actually from the north. As the afternoon wore on the wind was variable, swinging first west and then coming around from the east. A lot of folks were enjoying the swim beach. I cranked and wormed but couldn’t get bit.

Like I did last time, I rigged up a swim worm and started getting bit. I left Copperhead Cove and drifted down the mainlake point. I found a school of fish on a shallow flat. I alternated between the swim worm, senko and drop-shot. I got 4 on the swim worm, 3 on senko and 2 with drop-shot. I also caught a red-ear with the drop-shot. Off at 7:00pm.

Hi - I’ve been fishing at Pflugerville in my tiny inflatable kayak and have been loving it! (I am the one who posted about ethical killing of fish and caused an uproar) Well I’m ‘hooked’ on catch & release and spending as much time as I can fishing.
Since I’m new to this - could you explain your lures/tackle for me?
I know what a Senko is but what is a Swim Worm & a drop shot? I’ve had luck using a Crappie jig. The Bass haven’t been huge - but I haven’t been skunked. Also - when you fish there - do you fish around the entire perimeter of the lake?

Hey karlie,

Thanks for releasing the largemouth. When you get hungry, remember the rules are different for Pflugerville. NO cast nets! And, the minimum legal length for possessing Pflugerville largemouth is eighteen inches. See TPWD website for more.

I included picture of a drop-shot rigged with 6” roboworm and 1/4” oz drop weight.

I rarely “beat the bank” at Pflugerville. It is usually too windy for me to constantly position my boat for that. Typically I’ll search the offshore structure such as humps and drop-offs with a crank or a Texas rig until I get bit. Once I get bit, I drop the anchor and drop-shot or Texas rig for effect.

Good to know. It has definitely been a struggle with the wind to maintain in a position around the reeds… but I try.
