So I'm fairly new to bass fishing seeing that I've only got my boat about 2 months now and I've only started fishing in Austin about 2 years now. Before the last 2 months I've only fished bank spots but grew up in a family with boats so I was able to convince the wife a boat wouldn't be so bad. I guess since I fish the colorado close to where i've caught a fair amount of fish but small ones ... i'd generously estimate my PB at about 2 lbs.
i was at decker yesterday too and i wanted to head to the warm side of the lake but it was too windy for my liking for a jon boat but today the wind was a lot less so about midday I decided to make a run for it. Had to do battle with the skiers and jet skiers but I finally got a little cove to myself and that when i got my 2nd PB for the day!
Would you believe I only bought that net yesterday! Although I gotta admit I cheaped out on the scale> I didn't think i'd need a more accurate one or one with a larger capacity. Maybe now I'll go get a better one. The tape measure on the scale maxxed out at 22 inches but I'd say she was a shave under 23 inches (the boat seats are 18 inches wide). The scale maxxed out at 8 lbs and this was right about 7.5-8 depending on how I held it. It sure was heavy though. Form the minute it was on I knew it was a big fish but when I first saw it ... geez. I set the hook again after i saw it but she'd swallowed the whole crankbait (firetiger rules). I managed to tighten the drag and slow her down on a few runs and I made sure she was tired before i tried to net her. Once she was in the boat man that was a great feeling. I haven't been that excited in a while.
Of course I got all the pics with my phone as fast as I could so I could release her to fight another day. I did noticed that one eye was damaged and she may even have been blind in that eye. That made my weekend! Again thanks to all the folks on the forum who've shared their advice
