Spent the weekend at a lakefront rental near the convergence of Pedernales/Colorado on LT with friends up from Houston. The main reason for their trip was to continue researching lake area properties as they prepare to move up here later this year, so we didn't get a lot of fishing time in, but did pretty good up the Colorado arm on Saturday. It was my friend's wife's birthday and she loves to fish, and she got her birthday bite on before it was all over.
Friday about 2 pm we took a run up the Pedernales. Water temp was 63-65, and water looked suprisingly good and only slightly off color considering the recent rains. Primarily boating to see some properties from the water, but after marking numerous small schools well up past the bridge, finally had to troll a 1/2 oz silver/black trap and birthday girl hooked a nice white immediately. Kept trolling toward Reimers and she hooked one other white, but a total dink. Once up at Reimers, saw 5 or 6 other boats, some yakkers, and quite a few bank fisherman, but we got no bites and didn't see anybody hook up in the hour or so we were there.
Saturday, birthday girl hooked 4 or 5 blacks on minnows off our boat dock that morning, but only landed one probably due to using too small hook. Later, we headed up the Colorado arm to see some properties from the water around mile markers 46-47. Water looked good and temps ranged from 63 open water to near 67 in back of coves. Headed back downstream to a cove around mile markers 43-44 and got on a pretty good drop shot bite fishing baby rattlesnakes in 5' - 15' water. Temp was 64-66, and most fish came in the back half of the cove. Fished about 1 1/2 hours and caught probably 10 or so blacks, biggest 18", 3 guads biggest 14", and 1 crappie (her husband tossed the crappie back in as I was getting the camera, so no pic
). Friend's wife lost 3 or 4 others trying to get used to the dropshot.
So the birthday girl was all giddy about catching a 'grand slam' - she caught 2 whites, several blacks, 2 guadalupes, and a crappie. Good fishing fix for a soon-to-be-recovering-Houstonian, good weather, good friends, good food, good happy hour sessions with "way2many" adult beverages ;D, and all in all a stellar weekend. Only down side is that of all the pics we took, only 4 were on my camera card :'(, along with a wierd unnamed folder I've never seen before that has no pics in it ???. One other thing - we'd planned on fishing our dock at night because the website photos of the dock showed a mercury vapor light mounted low on the dock edge pointed down to the water...the light was there all right, but there was no wiring to it!!
