Hey guys, I'm looking to upgrade, and looking for a good Ranger or Champion or something reliable, that I won't have to put money into. Need something lake ready, cause I'm paying off my loan and taking out another loan from UFCU.

Looking for something in the 3500 to 6000$$ range, Preferably a 90's model boat, with atleast a 115, But would prefer a 150 to 200.

Something where I don't have to worry about the transom rotting also. Everyone has been telling me to look out for that.

Robert mentioned that 85 to 90's model Ranger's Champion's and Bass Cats are all great boats.

Looking for something that can handle big water, and also something that my 6 cylinder 4.0L Jeep can tow.

Would like atleast 17.5ft, up to the maximum that my jeep can tow without messing it up, or slipping on the boat ramp. Don't wanna get stuck at the ramp. So maybe 17.5ft to 19.5ft (If Jeep can tow it).

If you guys see something, and It's a great deal, I'd definitely be interested, Would prefer not to have another aluminum boat, but if it's big and too good a deal, I'd take that too.

I just want something I'll be happy with for a long time, and Would prefer not to spend 6000$$ bucks if it's justifiable I'd consider it also.

This is just what's in my budget according to the UFCU Loan Calculator.

Thanks a ton, and Tight Lines, ~David~

David-

My friend Stapp is selling his 19ft Hydrasport with 115 rude. It is a bay boat (center console), but has a trolling motor up front and fishfinder and has been known to catch plenty of bass, whites, hybrids, stripers, etc., not to mention reds, trout, flounder, etc.

It is on the heavy side for a jeep, but something to consider, esp. if you are interested in saltwater fishing.

This will sound a little weird but I see at least three things wrong with that pic of the Sprint.
One, he used a rock for a wheel chock.  Two, the foot pedal for the TM is down in the bottom of the boat.  Three, he didn't even take the cover all the way off of the boat.  That and he has problems growing grass.

On a side note I am always in the market for a used diesel truck.  One of the things that I was taught to look for was do the valve stems have caps screwed on?  It may sound stupid and simple, but so it changing the oil, annual maintenance on an outboard, fixing things when they break, etc.

I am over analyzing things here, but maybe you get my point.

That and the outboard it white....it's the wrong color ;D

So you are telling me I am the only one who right clicked on that pic and zoomed it to 350%?  Do that and you see the midget underneath the shadow of the boat patching a stump hole.  Either that or I need to get a day job and quit drinking :p

Yes, I have had a white motor before and it was too much work trying to keep it clean.

Also, the black TX boat numbers may not be of sufficient contrast to the blue metalflake and TPWD could write a ticket on that.

Good point, TDub.  Playing detective is a good idea.  The small details can be clues as to how the boat was treated and maintained by its owner(s).

If you have a jeep wrangler be cautious on the weight of the rig, they aren't the best towing vehicles. My dad has a 2003 wrangler sahara with a 4.0 and we tow 2 four wheelers to the deer lease with it and was very disappointed with the on highway power.Constantly down shifting. Being so short it would get a little squirrely also. I think it has more to do with the gearing in them than the motor, cause my wife's liberty with the 3.7 pulls the trailer 10 times better than my dads wrangler. I wouldn't worry about the ramp they have plenty of low end power, its just getting there. Good luck on your search I wish I would have waited an extra year I could have got a bigger boat for the same amount I spent. Also along with a test drive a compression check would be a good idea if you don't get a mechanic to check it out.

Good bringing that up Skeeter. Moon, if you still have the manual for the Jeep it should list the maximum towing capacity. If you don't, just do a google search for you vehicle and it should have the manual available via PDF.

I would purchase locally and get a LEMON check on it before purchasing it...If getting a first time bass boat, I would start with a name brand that has a high resale value. Also get one that is 16 to 17 foot. Good on gas and easy to tow. No need to be spending big bucks on gas, with the current prices. Also make sure to have the right receiver hitch. I recommend not have a BUMPER pull hitch, IMO.

Good Luck. Love to see others comments/opinions...good or bad..We all learn from others. :D

I talked to that guy about the 20ft Stratos boat, He's in Dallas, he said it chinawalks bad and said the jack plate just needs to be raised,

Can my jeep pull this thing? He says both of his 6cylnder cars can tow it, but they are 4wheel drive. I want to get it if it can tow it.
