Launched at 5PM and pulled at 8PM. Water temps ranged from 69-75. Visibility was a few feet except closer to the dam.
Marked very few fish for the first hour or so. Threw Citizen 7 and Deps 250 a bunch and didn't even get any follows or bites down low on the citizen. Switched it up and put the dropshot on with a 7" watermelon zoom spiral worm. Got doinked pretty much every cast but they were likely small. Caught 1 fish on it which was barely a pound. Small schools of shad were getting harassed by small bass all over.
Around 7PM I started moving back into the west channel of redbud. Zero bedding activity left and tons of drum cruising around in the shallows. I moved into a little pocket and saw a good bass swimming. Threw a few things around including the swimbaits, frogs and jigs with no action.
Started drifting a bit more with the wind (it was gusty with the incoming front) and I looked to my left and in 2 feet of water there was a bass just sitting there. Im only 8 feet or so away at this point. Clearly she saw me but quickly grabbed the jig rod and pitched it few feet past her. I hopped it 2 times and she saw it. She gave a little tail flutter then stuck her nose down in the 4 inches or so of vegetation. One small tap on the rod with my hand and she sucked the jig in and I set the hook.
When I saw her, I thought she was maybe 4-5lbs but when I netted her I realized she was bigger. The jig popped out into the net so got a little lucky on that one.
Spotted another big cruising bass on the way in but no luck.
