I'm sure all these lakes are going to end up with those things. I doubt there is a way to stop them. I doubt they will hurt the fishing much but a problem for pipes, docks and boats that stay in the water.

I'm worried about the underwater infrastructure. For example, we here in Briarcliff get our water from a pumping barge in our marina's cove. Those things clogging our pipes will make for an expensive fix, and there's communities all over the lake that share similar situations. Bad news, boys. :(

There's an article in today's Statesman on the problem.

From a website discussing predators of zebra mussels...

"Several fish and ducks are known to consume them. Channel
catfish, blue catfish, freshwater drum, smallmouth buffalo, river carpsucker, redear sunfish, and common carp will eat zebra mussels. ... However, because of the fertility of zebra mussels, it is unlikely these animals will be able to control them."
