Had a college bass fishing tournament on Lake Belton yesterday in which most of the major schools from Texas competed along with a few from other states.  The University of Texas had 3 teams competing including two other members of ABF HuntinAllDay and GasperGoober.  None of our teams got much pre-fishing done except for a little on Thursday in which we developed a pattern that worked pretty good.  The pattern was cranks in 8-12' of water in coves with access to deep water (20' +).  During our Thursday pre-fishing we limited including a nice 5.5lb'er I caught on a DD22 in 20ft of water with GasperGoober pulling in a solid limit also.

Well Friday morning came and we were ready and On the water by 6:45 waiting to start the tourney at "safe light", which was delayed until about 8:30am because of heavy fog  ::).  We started off our day back in some creeks cranking in 8-12' without any luck and decided to move and try some shallower coves and through everything we had at them, but couldn't get any takers.  Next we moved onto a large point and again through everything we had, but still no takers...about this time we started having trouble with our trolling motor, which we didn't get to charge because we left the boat at the ramp due to broken trailer bearings  .  So we decided to try some bluffs as our last resort, since they hadn't been biting there during our pre-fishing, but our motor wouldn't crank  .  This was at around 11:30 and was just the beginning of our troubles...We had to use our trolling motor all the way back to the ramp which took us about and hour and we noticed our gas tank was on Empty even considering we had put 15 gallons in it the day before ::).  So we figured maybe we needed some gas so my partner got in the truck and filled up a 5 gallon tank at a local gas station since the marina next to the ramp gas pump was broken  ::).

We got back out on the water around 1:30 and by this time our trolling motor was dead and the engine still wasn't cranking even with the 5 fresh gallons   .  Finally we got her to crank and decided to head for a small bluff across from the boat ramp and just anchor there and fish the remainder of the tourney.  We fished there until about 2:45 and got a couple of bites on dropshot, but nothing in the boat.  We got sick of just sitting there anchored so we decided to call it quits and it took us 20minutes to get the motor cranked and when we did we floored to to the ramp and beached it for the remainder of the tourney which ended at 3:30pm.

We had a horrible day on Belton considering the broken trailer bearings which we tried to replace for 2 hours only to find out the hub was broken after we finally replaced the bearings   late Thursday night.  Then with all of the boat troubles on Friday and having to drive home going 40 mph with a chained up axle and on top of that we caught no fish  ;D  Just glad to be home, although it was fun to see one of our teams (HuntinAllDay) take 10th place which they got all of their keepers on Shaky heads, which is my favorite lure.  A&M ended up taking first place with a 13 something pound sack.

Lurp,

Man, sorry to hear about all the troubles. I can only think of one or two more things that could have happened to ya.

We have all been there though. Sometimes just one problem, sometimes the wheels just fall off.. Does not help the confidence in a T, fo sure !

I don't remember exact places but I'm pretty sure one of the SFA teams finished in the top 10 and another in the top 15. Those boys can fish along with being a nice group of guys. They took first in the Beaver Lake college tourney a couple of weeks ago.

Thanks for the condolences.  Even though all those things went wrong their still isn't another place I would have rather been.  I learned a lot and even the worst day of fishing is better than the best day of anything else  ;)
