I had to drop the dog off at the groomer's this morning so had a couple hours to kill. Decided to grab the gear and make a quick trip to LA. I was throwing a crank bait off a point where I kept seeing baitfish jumping for their lives. A few casts later my rod loaded down and the fish took some drag off immediately. I could feel it was a nice one but then I saw it jump.
There were a couple guys fishing off a bass boat within shouting distance...the conversation went something like this.
Me: "Hey! You fellas got a net??!".
Fisherman: "Yeah we got a net."
Me: "I think I'm gonna need it!"
They headed right over but I did not want to take a chance on this fish getting off since it had already given me a couple nice jumps. I got it close enough to grab it just as the fishermen in the bass boat made it over. Turns out they are fellow ABFers and were nice enough to hang out while I weighed the fish and even took some pics. Here she is. 9lbs 13oz and a new personal best for me. New PB 9lbs 13oz
Caster- thanks again buddy for taking the pics! It can be tough taking photos by yourself in the kayak. It was good to meet you and your Dad out there today.
Other fish caught today:
Chunky white bass caught on swimbait. Must have thrown into a school of them because the paddle tail on my bait was gone when I reeled it in and there were some chunks taken out of the body of the bait.
2lb bass on baby rattlesnake. (Also caught a dink right after this one with the baby rattlesnake.)
Last fish of the day turned out to be acarp Gaspergoo. I though I had another good bass on the way it had my rod bent over.
Not a bad morning on the water! ;D I almost went to Travis today...glad I fished Lake Austin instead! Fish on!
