I noticed the other day that the canal feeding the docks at the Austin Country Club hadn't emptied completely. Since I have a lot of success catching summer bass from under these docks, I had the bright idea that maybe, just maybe some bass had gotten trapped in there. So I left work a bit early yesterday with the intent of probing this potential honey hole.

I got there around 4:30 PM - threw mostly shallow cranks and dragged a Grande Baby Rattlesnake on a drop shot rig. Nothing, NADA, no bites, no bumps. I'd guess there's still 3-4 feet of water in the middle but I never even saw a sign of fish activity - it was dead still. I'm not convinced that every fish made it back to the main lake but if they are in there, they weren't biting yesterday!

After an hour, all my gear was icing and casts were getting shorter and shorter as my braid froze (along with my fingers) so I called it quits. If anyone has tried this pool and caught anything, I'd like to hear about it! It was certainly worth a try.

Trust me they know when the water is receding (MSP?). Think of tidal bass, they now. They move up and down with it.
