Rick (Zertis) and I fished Lake Austin yesterday. Rick has never fished this lake, so I gave him a some what tour of the place. We threw swim baits, crank baits, and plastic. If I remember right, all of our fish were taken on plastic. We used lizards, flukes, worms, creatures, and sinkoes. The catch rate was about even on the color of plastic we used which was water melon, and red shad. Ninety five percent of our plastic was fished on a T/R, but we also tried C/R and weightless. Here again my numbers may be off a little, but I think we caught like fifteen bass in all. Out of those fifteen, we only caught like six keepers. Our best five would have been around 12 pounds. Not to good, but we had a great time just like we always do.
We pitched at docks, and mainly came up with dinks.
Moved out into the 12 to 14 FOW where there’s some grass and that’s where our keeper fish were caught.
Rick did stick one nice bass on this trip. It weighed in at 4.11 lbs. I’m going to say one thing about this bass, she really had some nice color to her. Her belly was full and she was extremely healthy looking. Really nice looking fish.
Well Rick oh buddy, you are now hooked on Lake Austin. She coughed up a nice fish, and I’m sure you’re ready to hit it again.
Here’s a snap shot of Rick’s fish. Congrats my friend, nice catch on your first trip.
