Good day on LA, and a PB

Not a PB by size, but by numbers. They were biting for me today.

14 keepers, most in the 1.5-2.5 lb  range, and one that just barely missed 4lb. Also lots of dinks hitting crankbaits about half their size.

Put in at Quinlan around 6:30am and fished until 1:30pm.

The pattern all day, except for 3 bass around 7am on a Sammy 100, was running a shallow crankbait 1-3 ft below the surface over emergent weedbeds in water about 4-5 ft. deep.

Most of the day I was using either a Rebel Wee-R or a similar XPS bait in a green/gold color.

I had good days on Mon. and Tues. as well with cranking, so for some fish on LA, it's a horizontal bite.

Did you try any pop-r topwaters? I am going Sunday morning to Quinlan and usually do well on Excallibur zellpop? Let you know how it goes. Were you fishing the docks or across the lake?

TRY THE ZOOM HORNY TOAD FOR TOP WATER I HAD A LOT OF SUCCESS LAST COUPLE OF MORNING I WENT. NOT SURE THE COLOR I KNOW IT HAD A NEON YELLOW STOMACH
Herb,
That must have been you I met at the boat launch (I had the red kayak). Thanks for taking the time to give me some LA tips this morning - I very much appreciated it.

I didn't do as well as you, but any day I'm on the water and can learn something new is a good day. I see I'll have to bring a bigger assortment of lures next time (or at least a different assortment).
Thanks again.

Barb
My personal best 6.9 lber was caught at 6:30AM in April on the Excallibur X Z 2 zellpop topwater lure right in front of the LA Spa and Resort. Will see how it does Sunday morning. Holler if you are out there...I'm in the Pelican boat w/ the trolling motor.

You're very welcome. 'Twas a pleasure meeting ya! Hope to wet a line with you again.

BTW, how did you know my name is Herb?

I may get out early Sunday. If I see ya, I'll holler. Usually I avoid the weekends and fish weekday mornings. The ski traffic really didn't pick up today until about 1:30-2pm

I've had good luck with poppers/chuggers up there, Tiny Torpedoes, Ribbits, Lake Fork Frogs, Horny Toads, anything that disturbs the topwater over those hydrilla beds in front of those docks.

My PB fish, 7lb 4oz, came off the outside edge of the weedbed in front of the Fat Farm. On a swimming senko.

Your notoriety proceeds you....... ;)

Nothin better then a big string day. Wish I could get out myself. Havin this boat in the yard and not being able to use it is killin me... Especially if there's a TW bite to be had....

Regards

i might actually be out there i was supposed to take my dad tomorrow morning but he has something else he needs to do in the morning. so we are going to try for sunday am
The temperature yesterday was really moderate, there was cloud cover all day, not excessive pleasure boaters, and a brief pissant rainshower. These conditions probably improved the bite somewhat.
Thanks for the report...It beats getting skunked or working! Thanks for sharing!
