I am going to go out in the morning Sat 07 Jan for the first time ever on this lake. I ahve been reading a bunch of stuff about the lake and it seem like it has been kind of slow. Any info would be great thanks.
Its not slow, Fayette reminds me of the gulf of mexico anything over 15 mph, I have a 10 ft. jon boat and it can manage it (i have a good bilge pump). Make sure you hit the discharge and trees for sure. I stayed in the trees all day Wednesday. 14- 3 to 5 lbs and a dinner sized catfish. I assume you meant to type Sat 07 Feb?
Hey Bigdaddy, there are quite a few posts talking about Fayette. It has been doing alright and will only be getting better. Personally, unless this is a short drive, I wouldn't want to go down there for the first time in this wind. They are saying 10-20 with gusts to 30 and that place has no cover from the wind. IMO it won't endear you to the place. Good luck if you go and let us know how you do.
Tight lines.
p.s. these posts are supposed to go in tips and techniques
even if there is no wind anywhere else in the world there will be wind a fayette. we went last week and did good in about 5-10 of water. we fished slow.jigs and plastics. saw some on beds. im sure it would be good out there from here on out.
first couple of times i went it was windy has hell but we managed several great fish and had me thinking about that lake until the next windy trip. it is going to be windy out there but it is going to be windy the next time you want to go too.
The wind is your friend if its not blowing 30 plus. Move out to the first drop from the spawning flats and cast lipless cb. The color red is killer at fayette this time of year. Have always found bass staging to spawn easier to catch than bass on the beds. Good luck.
Yeah, I totally agree with everyone else. Fayette is an awesome fishing lake, but I if was you, I'd wait to fish another weekend because of all the wind being predicted this weekend.
