I'm heading down for my first trip to Lake Austin this Friday. I'm planning to put in at 360 bridge. Should I head up towards Lake Travis, or cruise towards town ? I'm not asking where the honey holes are ( o.k. I am ) but I'd like to have an opportunity to catch a fish or two. Thanks

I can tell you I spent some time on the lower end (Lady Bird) and tore them up on Friday. Saturday, couldn't hardly get bit... I would probably go way up, and give a go at it- But what do I know?! Hard to say bc Austin's pattern rarely holds up.

I hit LA on Tuesday from 6:30 AM-2 PM and threw everything at it swim baits, jerk baits, worms, spinnerbaits, jigs and plugs, NADA. I met a fishermen who was trolling and spoke to him for a few seconds. He told me that he was catching them on purple crankbsits. I usually don't troll for bass but I diffenitly don't know LA yet so I decided to give it a try. I trolled down the far left side from the 360 bridge and was able to pull three in thrity minutes. They were the only ones I caught all day. Pretty bad day on a whole but while trolling I was able to locate some good fish holding spots. I would stop and fish those areas but the fish wouldn't cooperate. I hope you have better luck.

yeah had the same problem had to go up to quinlan to put in but guess it was a good thing because on I think my 4th cast I hooked into an easy 9+++ lbs fish got her near the boat and shook the hook even though I had my rod in the water.

If you would learn how to handle your equipment better the day would have turned out much brighter.  I guided you to yet another good fish and you went and lost it.  I was prepared to take the trebble hooks in the hand to grab that one.

It was the third cast btw.

Is it absolutely necessary to embarass the guy publicly with attitude and announcing his technique shortcomings to the entire forum?

I'm sure he got a good lesson in rod control by losing the fish in the first place, and by what was said to him in the boat after the fish swam off.  ::)

I truly hope you are not being serious.  Kevin and I have a very open relationship.  Public humiliation and ribbings are regular occurrences both on and off the water.  Until you know him or I a little better please refrain from judging the intent of my comments (to a very close friend) on a public Internet forum.  Anyone who fishes the Wednesday nighters would probably tell you that the both of us are pretty easy going and any 'embarrassment' or 'attitude' sent our way would be brushed off fairly quickly.

Between the two of us we have caught many fish bigger than the one lost that day and it wasn't a tournament situation so it wasn't that big of a deal.  Contrary to my comments above he actually isn't too bad of a stick.  Besides, it's all for fun right?

So to answer your question.  No.  It was not absolutely necessary.  I was going for a good laugh (on both our parts) and personal entertainment more than anything else.  But apparently it did not come off that way.  So, ::) back at ya

Sorry to both of y'all, I had no way of knowing you were tight buds. I have a partner as well and our main activity together, other than fishing, is giving each other good-natured grief... much like the two posts above.

So you have my apologies, and tight lines to both of you. :)
