Took the short drive today and launched at Jim Hogg. Started fishing about 9:35. Noticed some schooling activity with some small groups of fish so chased them for a while. Caught one on a topwater and three on the Fluke Jr. 12-13" fish. The schooling was sporadic and they didn't stay up long so I went back to fishing the first stretch. Nothing there so moved on to another good area and nothing there also. It was slick calm and the bite was definitely off. Went back to the schoolers and caught four more on the fluke. The wind picked up a little and they seemed to stop. It's been ages since I've thrown a Ned rig but had it ready and didn't take long to catch a fish. The Ned saved the day and I caught eight on it by the time I quit at 1:45. The bites were so subtle that I didn't feel a single hit. Kept checking for pressure and they were just swimming with it. Clicked 16, all bass. Baits were a Heddon Spook Boyo bone color, Super Fluke Jr. in Albino nose-hooked, and a Zman 2.75" TRD The Deal on a 1/16 oz red head that I make. There was a wake boat with surfer that was making monster waves and it seemed to be following me! You know there's always something wrong with a boat. When I got to my Rav after the killer walk up the ramp I saw that one of my trailer bunks was not bolted to the bracket. Looked around in the boat and found a length of rope that used to be a spare trolling motor rope so was able to tie it to the bracket. When I was tying down the boat I saw that my transducer was hanging there and was broken in two. So it goes. I'm so tired of this heat! Looking at the forecast it shows nine days of North wind starting Monday. What's up with that?!!? Water was still 86º!!
