Hit the Dead Sea with Fishbone and low expectations. We charted a ton of fish right where I read they would be - backside of Russell Park and mouth of the river. I really wanted to get into the whites, but they would not hit. We threw cranks, rattletraps, spoons, slabs and even tried the hell-pet...no takers.

So at 11:00ish we decided to hit the rocky points for the green bass and I picked up 6 on a bomber Flat-A. 3 went between 16-17", 2-2.5 lbs so not too shabby for me. The Bone only managed 1 fat 14"er on a Flat-A.

Off the water at 2. I need to catch some shad or minnows and head back to the river mouth - there were a ton of whites.

I charted huge amounts of whites as well right in the exact same area.....we tried spoons and got a few but nothing to brag about....water temp was reading about 58 degrees should be prime time.....we too went back and hit rock points for the green men and ended up putting 6 in the boat in the 15-18 inch range...nothing too crazy......let me know if and when you head out there again..

You need to catch "River" minnows from the San Gabriel River...

When the whites starts moving up to Camp Tejas, only river minnows seem to catch them...IMO

When you find them in open water, suspended....it can be very hard to trigger a bite.

IMO= In My Opinion!

Couple of years ago. when I learned about this topic, I fished for whites using live store bought minnows beside someone that was using river minnows...He had his limit quick!...I did not...He even put a store bought minnow on his line to prove that River Minnows or Spot-tails caught the whites...The store minnows, they did not touch!

Just having a good time. I have read so many reports that basically mirror what you say. I know if I go out to catch whites, I will find a way to get them RIVA MINNAS.

Yeah, there is a creek by my house full of spot tails and pike minnows - I always use them when I head down to Choke for the whites. I have not used them in Georgetown yet, but I might have to try. Boat is going to the shop this week, so I will be out of comission for a while. Let us know if anyone has luck at the Dead Sea.
