I am going to be fishing lake austin the last weekend of may and was wondering how the fishing will be then? Where they might be hiding? Lure to use? Typical size caught? Any help would be much appreciated!!

I hate to be the bear of bad news...but that weekend is one of the craziest on lake austin but the fishing can be done but it has to be done at night because of all the boating during the day, and it will just be nuts...but if you do go out the fishing around the main lake dock is decdnt at night and you can go up the lake and fish...I always throw some kinda of dark color at night like a black and blue jig or a weightless dark dinger isnt bad...but the fishing will hard...good luck buddy

x2 on craziest with it being Memorial weekend. So crazy with boat traffic that jet skis are banned over holiday weekends like Memorial to keep the body count down. Bring your wakeboard boat for days, senkos around docks and grass at night. Good luck and be safe.

Drewski,

Recreational boat traffic is slow until 11am so earlier is better but there's not much of an early bite on right now. There are a number of coves that are "no wake" zones that you can fish comfortably all day - Bull Creek, Bee Creek, Austin Country Club (lots of docks at ACC - a great place to skip a Senko when its sunny). Also, up lake gets less boat traffic. Its not just the number of boats, its the kind of boats - these boats carry a system for generating maximum wake for boarders so even a mid-size cruiser can through a BIG wake. Be careful and good luck!

I caught a bass in LA once as a direct result of a boat wake and rude boater. It was the middle of the summer. I was fishing the Senko ultra slow. A boat wizzed by and moved the bait. As it fell, the bass bit. Thanks Wake Austin!

I can't stand wake austin. I know there are good fish in there and everything but last year we would go out there when we felt it might be a little windy for Travis and we would get bombarded by the wake boarder. We would put on at sun up and leave by 10 am because it got so annoying. Even in the fall when it would be in the 50's in the a.m. there would be the first wake boarders out before 9 am.

We used to do well with anything white or chrome by the 360 bridge. Also want to mention we ALWAYS put in on a weekday ... usually Fridays and it was still like that.

Summer Months fish after 8pm and it isn't that bad late night fishing is great and not dealing with +100 degrees is nice, or fish early around 5:30 til 10:45 or so and leave quick. It's not so bad once you get used to it. It's also alot easier the more North you head but if you launch at 360 your gonna have to deal with it on the way back, weekends stay at home with family..lol
