Started out on the lake around 7 am. with no wind at all and blue bird skies. The top water bite was as slow as I have ever seen it under these conditions. Managed to hook up with one four pound fish early, and from that point on it was real slow with two to three pound fish, but mainly two pound fish.
Moved over to the rip rap looking for a plastic bite. Here again, a real slow bite. Caught a few over there, but went hunting for a better bite. Saw fish feeding on shad out deep, one here and one there all over the lake, almost as though they were schooling. The lake looked like glass.
Fished a 6 to 8 foot diving crank in the deeper timber. Bump the timber and you had a fish on. Here again, it was just one here and one there, but at least these fish were 2-½ to 3 lb. fish. Those little green bugs that Fayette is so famous for were all over the place. Sweaty body, bugs all over you, very slow bite, and hot no matter where you stopped to fish, so I decided to call it the day around 1:30pm.
I fished the back seat with two different anglers this morning, and I’m guessing we ended up boating something like twelve to fourteen fish out of the three of us. Very slow day for sure.
Baits that produced for us today.
1. Yellow Magic fished around shallow grass and reeds.
2. Weighted or un-weighted flukes fished around shallow timber and grass beds.
3. Baby brush hog, water melon/ W small gold flakes, back legs dipped in chartreuse.
4. 6 to 8 feet diving cranks around deeper timber. (fire tiger)
Going to bed, falling asleep at my PC.
Good night all.
