Fayette  1-8

One thing I can honestly say, the weather was just awesome.

I got on the water around 10:30am and the bite was dead dead dead. Not one single tap for hours. Fished trees, humps, grass, points, submerged structure, intake, discharge, baffle dike, with no takers what so ever.

My wife called me around 2:30 to see how things were going. I told her that I felt like I was on Lake Austin fishing, I have not had one single tap as of yet, but I’m graphing fish everywhere I go. I also told her that I had eight rod and reels on the deck, plus I have cut and retied on several of the rods trying to find something that the fish want. Then around 3:00 or 3:30, the moon peaks over the eastern horizon, and the fish decided to come out and play.
I went back over to the dam area when I saw the moon up and began pitching the Yellow Magic top water bait up against the sun beating warm rocks and the bite went absolutely ballistic. Four pound bass were busting this thing like crazy. This went on all the way up to sun down. They were coming out of the water with the bait in their mouth and I had to wait a split second allowing them to fall back into the water before setting the hook. And I never missed a blow up. I ended up with sixteen blacks and one channel cat. Out of those sixteen bass, I did hook a couple of dinks, but for the most, it was good quality four pound fish that were fat and healthy looking.

So in the end, the day turned out to be okay aftyer all.

Re: Fayette  1-8

Sounds like a blast. Thanks for the report. Nothing like a great top water bite.
Re: Fayette  1-8

Sounds like fun wish I could have made it out. Have they pumped any water back in yet?
Re: Fayette  1-8

Sounds like a trip to Fayette is in order for me!!
Re: Fayette  1-8

Great Stuff!  There is no better feeling than seeing a huge hawg blow up on a top water.  Sounds like you definitely made up for the lack of a bite early in the day.

Sweeeeeet!!!!!!

Who carries Yellow Magics locally? The last one I bought was at Highland Lakes Tackle, in Round Rock, (no longer there).
Re: Fayette  1-8

Sportsman's usually has them but has been out of most of the colors.

If they have, then I sure couldn't tell the difference. Still real low Chris.

I also noticed that Bass Pro has quit carrying these baits as well. I’m glad I’ve got a pretty good stock of these things, but on the other hand, I would like to pick up a few more of this one color that seems to produce better for me.

We had the river pumps running then shut them down for a little while. They are running again now.
