Went out to decker for a couple of hrs tonight. The girls are hooked on bass fishing. Launched at 5:30 off the lake at 7:30.

Tried several baits and fish were just not active. Dianna did catch one fish that was 19" and about 3 lbs on a watermellon/red tiki stick
Other than that just a couple of light bites. Still had lots of fun ;)

Jim, I know what you mean about a slow bite. I was out there that Morning from 0630 till about 1230, and only managed 2 LMBs. But, just like you said, still had lots of fun on the water.

I use to fish Decker alot yrs back. That lake still has a soft spot in my heart its really where I realized I loved bass fishing and learned how to bass fish.

Yall keep the reports coming. I plan on getting out there soon. Especially if yall are seeing some schooling action.

ACK is having a kayak bass fishing tourney out on Decker in a couple of weeks HHJ. You need to stow your big boat, rent or use a kayak, and go out and win yourself that new kayak you've been wanting :D A little local knowledge will give you an edge!

Here's the KATS schedule (subject to change)
2009 KATS events

Jan 24 LA (roadrunner, 360 bridge, 1 day warm up event, no points towards overall KATS, date subject to change per LCRA lake lowering schedule, top 10 finishers get a 10 minute head start on ANY ONE of the remaining KATS events!)

Feb 28 Bastrop (north shore)

Mar 28 Travis (Muleshoe to Gloster)

Apr 25 Decker (old sailboat launch, same as 2008)

May 16 Fayette (Oak Thicket or park Prairie launch, sign in/weigh in @ Prairie)

June 13 LBL (roadrunner, sign in/weigh in TBA)

The ACK one day tourneys in Oct 18th I believe but best to check. I heard they lowered the entry fee....can you say "cherry pick" ;D
They are giving away a T120 for 1st place and that boat would suit you very well
Check their site for details austinkayak.com

Now that the water temperature has dropped out there.  I've graphed a large amount of fish on the warmer side of the lake.  Come off that point from the highline wires to the outlet channel, about 100yards, and fish with 4 inch white grubs.  You'll catch some fish.

No. Decker is essentially tree free except for a small portion by the intake to the bridge over Decker lane. There are some pretty big hydrilla fields though, and I've seen some old roads and some hydrilla as deep as 30 feet. There is one large hydrilla field that is directly under the highlines that always holds fish at about 22 feet. just start on one side of the lines and troll to the other, you can't miss it with your depth finder. If you like catfish, I can tell you where I bait all the time. I've been looking for a few people who want to make a community baiting hole.

you know, I just thought of something, I've caught nice size lmb on minnows in the channel heading to the bridge over Decker lane. I can get my boat back there with the Trolling motor because I draft so high. It would be excellent in a Kayak, also if your casting up and down that channel, its so thin, that if it's holding some bass, you are sure to put your lure right in front of them. might be worth and hour of your tourny time. There are also some trees that hang over the water down that channel.

Bass Boozer count me in on the catfish bait hole. I love to take people catfishing much easier than teaching people to catch bass. I've baited out there a few times takingfloating catfish pellets or soured maize and sinking it in burlap sacks. Seems to let the scent bleed out of these bags without letting the fish fill up. we've done pretty well in the past but I'd also be willing to sink some brush to help. P.M. me, sounds like a plan
