Allright'
OK I know that traditionally fisherman tend to stretch the truth a little. I may have myself on occasion embelished a story jist a little. But this is getting out of control.
Hit up LA again this morning. caught well, uh nothing. Atleast I'm man enough to admit it. Launched at 360 at 5:10 surprised to see another 8 Suckers out there ahead of me that could'nt sleep either because of dreams of big bass swimming around so hungry that they're biting themselves. Started north of quinlan with a topwater and had several bites (though none of the fish were big enough to take the big topwater under). Hung one an hour or so later that may have been as big as the buzzbait that foul hooked him. After that, yea pitch the docks they say, reedlines and weed beds yea. Nothing. Now I don't claim to be tournament ready but I've fished most of my 30 years (even won a tournament or two) And I'm not a huge conspiracist [though I do think there was another shooter on the grassy knoll) But the gig is up I'm on too all of you catching these "monster" bass. Yea. Now I fished the drawdown and I caught some fish so big they'd scare your momma. Where they go and how they get there I don't care, but they go somewhere. Decker, no problem. Bastrop cast after cast. But LA in the summer c'mon guys just admit it. You come back from the lake and put your wives to work "photoshopping" another hog.
While we're on the topic RATTLESNAKES. I've got them in 12 different colors and both sizes and I've fished them a lot. I might even suspect I should have foul hooked something with one by now. Ive worked down a reed bank picked up 6 or 7 fish on a power worm switched to a rattle nothing. yea switched back to the worm and they're fighting over it. I don't know which one of you owns stock in rattle snakes but you owe me about 125 bucks. you've even gotten too my Dad He calls me, "son have you heard about these rattlesnakes I'm catching fish on them everywhere they're amazing" Funny thing is I've never actually SEEN him catch anything on them. As a matter of fact I've never seen anybody catch anything on them. The gig is up boys. I'm gonna expose you all for the liars that you are

As far as LA I agree I cannot consistantly find fish on that lake but have no problems catching fish anywhere else ???
The worm I've had tied on for the past 2 months is a baby rattlesnake in diff colors mainly watermelon red, and catch a bunch of good fish on them. Even had a couple good days on LA with them. Always rigged shakey head. Can't figure out LA but will vouch for the rattlesnakes.

What you have to understand is LA in one finicky lady and you just to slow down relax and have a good time. I have fish 8 hours without a bite and then nights like last weekend where we caught quality fish one dock after another. I also run out and buy certain baits that other guys on this form have recomended and not caught crap on them. But some of the guys and gals on this site have fished LA for years and have extensive knowledge of the lake. If you think they are not catching fish just look at the tourney section and look at the 25 lb & 23 lb sack that was caught in only 3 hours Wednesday night on LA.

Just keep fishin and if that don't work drink more Tecate!!

Ben, are you through venting, and do you feel better now?
Trust me my friend; there are a lot of us that feel the same way as you do. Lake Austin can do this to a person real quick.

I myself do not use rattle snakes, but I have fished with others who do and they catch a lot of fish on them. So with that said, I would have to give rattle snakes a big thumbs up.

But I totally understand how you feel about this lake. Just the other day when I was out there, I saw three and four pound bass swimming around and they never once reacted to anything I pitched in front of them. It was like it didn’t even exist. That’s why I chose not to enter into the last Wednesday night tournament. There has to be a pattern and a technique to this lake, I just haven’t figured it out yet. And if I should ever figure it out, I’m not so sure that I’ll be willing to share with everyone. But there are some nice fish in this lake to be had.

gentlemen gentlemen
I was looking for a little sense of humor here. some of the posts are so dry. In reality this was only the second non drawdown time i've fished the lake I smiled the whole time i wrote that. Just looking for something different and maybe a little funny.

Actually, I think you hit the nail on the head. It’s a hard lake to fish most of the time. I am so amused with some of the fish that are brought back to the scales in such a short period of time. I don’t see how they do it, but I’m impressed.

Yea..La can be a ***** one day, and then reward you with a monster the next.   One of the best lakes in Texas for double digit #'s though.  There have been several double digit bass caught out of LA this year.  To me, it's worth the frustrating days of nada, because you know a day is coming that could be special.  I've caught more big bass out LA than Lake Fork, where I grew up fishing.  LA is definitely not a numbers lake, and it will test any man's patience and resolve.  I must say I've done well on Rattlesnakes out there, split shot,  worked slowly..slowly...slowly.. ;D

oh theres definantly big fish there. A lot can be said for fishing a lake day in and day out. The first tournament I ever fished was on lake limestone. I couldnt have been more than 16 and fished it with a buddy about the same age. We weighed the first second and third big fish of the tournament and of course heavy bag. doesnt mean I was a better fisherman than the other guys but my parents had a house there and I'd probaly fished it 1,000 times. In all honesty I am extremely jealous of the guys that know this lake so well. I didnt see many 12 and 13 lb fish coming out of limestone. The morning was stunningly beautiful and I'll definantly be back. Heck maybe even this afternoon ;)

Ben, I and many others have felt your frustrations when fishing LA. I have fished this lake for years now and it still frustrates the he%% out of me. But there is always that chance of double digits that gets me out there. I think patience is the key- like others have said finicky water. I fished the same water on LA for 4 hrs this am and never started the big motor. 4 hrs - 4 bites. Had a five and 2-fours; 1 shorty. Those sticks catchen 25 lbs know where fish are- but they also know how to adjust to makem eat. Something I am trying to learn. Peace. ;)

I've been fishing LA for about 2 years now. It breaks my heart oh too often. I've been skunked out there more than I care to admit, but I've also had some pretty decent days. I am beginning to understand how the patterns vary ( not how to catch them). I've landed four huge fish in my life and none of them were from LA. La has yet to reward me with anything larger than 5lbs 11oz, but I'm gonna keep at it and hope for the best.

Travis

PS. I thought the conspiracy was funny! ;D

Juke, same here. Nothing bigger then 6lbs 3ozs, but I think I'll break it soon.

It's all part of fishing, time on the water makes you a better angler. The more work you put in on the water, the more it's going to show. You'll learn what to use under any condition.

I fish LT 3-4 times a week, and it's been showing lately. I have figured that lake out finally, and I have rigs that I can fall back on when nothing is going for me. It's just all those days you spend out there will all make you a better, more rounded angler.

I, too, Ben, feel your frustration. I went out last Sunday morning early and caught a 11"er at 7AM and not another fish in the boat. Got off the water at noon and was really frustrated. One time the zellpop will work, next time, not a nibble. However, I can go fishing with Ranger R77 and its like we compete against each other to see who can catch the most fish. MOST of the time he wins though. He can catch em when they ain't biting. Call it luck or call it skill. But we fish good together. I usually do good with a watermelon red Zoom 6" lizard slowly retreiving and he catches em on the white swim bait. Sometimes hours though without a bite and then we find "The Spot". Good Luck to ya and keep trying.
