Went out to Canyon with my girlfriend for a few hours on Sat. Man, you could tell everyone had a bad case of cabin fever, because if they had anything that floated//they had it out on Canyon Lake.
Actually took the first wave (boat wake) ever over the front of my ZX-250. Some guy drove in to the little pocket I was fishing, made a U-turn at full speed, and drove right across the bow of my rig at approx. 25 feet away. I sure wish I could give these people that drive like this an IQ test. I would imagine that the score would reflect their driving styles.
Sorry for the rant, onto the results. The fishing was actually pretty good for a blue-sky day and 190,000 boats on the lake. As expected for this time of year on Canyon, they were smooth crushing the ol' football jig. Caught 13 fish, all but five were keepers all on the 3/4 oz Nichols Football jig.
The fish are still spawning, but due to the gin-clear water (10-12 ft visibility) they are spawning out on the first breaklines. Caught all of my fish in 12-18 feet, missed more fish than I caught. Most fish were just blowing it off the beds (at least that is my theory). You would feel the hard thump, set the hook--and nada. Pretty good day in all, and I know the weekday bite will be much better.
