I have been fishing out of my Emotion Stealth Angler Kayak for about 6 months. It's a great kayak, but to be honest I don't think I can get into the yak fishing. HUGE props to those that do, I just don't think it's for me. at:

So, I have been doing some looking around and I've found some Jon boats I can throw in the back of my truck. I plan on fishing by myself mostly, occasionally with the ol' lady or a buddy. Obviously, anything I throw in the back of my truck will not be sturdy enough to stand in. I just need some more comfort and ability to move! Also, most of the Jon's I've looked at come with a troller motor. Either way, I'd put one on. Perfect, as I am about to live 2 minutes from my favorite slip on TL (LBL for the transplants )

Jon Boat tips/advice/experience would be greatly appreciated.

Also, I am currently saving up for a big boy boat, but I'd really like to have something to help the time pass.

Minimum for what you're wanting to do is 12'

Honestly, bite the bullet and go get a 14' boat with a tiller driven motor. You can get a decent rig like that ranging from $750 to $2000 on craigslist.

And you can still put it on TownLake with a trollingmotor on it. Plus you hit some of the other area lakes - Decker, Bastrop, Georgetown. A little further drive and you got Stillhouse or Summerville.

The main thing before you buy is make sure the boat has papers.

Gary Pender up at BassProShops in Round Rock will do a free buyers check that I would definitely recommend before exchanging money.

Personally, I saved my money and asked around the forum for guys who had an open backseat until I had the money and found the right deal for me. Respect their stuff like it is your own and chip in some gas money and shouldn't have any problem getting invites.

Dude save your money. I'm always happy to take you out on Lake Austin if you want. Spending money on a jon boat makes no sense if you're going to buy a "big boy" boat eventually. The money you'd spend on a jon overtime is your down payment on the "big boy" boat. Especially if you're just hitting up TL. Just bank fish it at night and you'll catch plenty of bass. No money spent required.
