Steering cable snapped. If that happens at speed I can imagine everyone going over, sad story man. True though, upkeep is the key to happy boating!

That very thing happened to a great fiddle player up in North Texas, Rick Solomon, 10-12 years ago in Lake Tawakoni. Steering cable broke, Rick got tossed, they found him a couple days later.

My steering cable snapped this spring on Travis up the perdenales. I was cruising about 40 when I trimmed down to go through a boat wake, soon as I went through my boat took a hard left turn by itself and I shut it down almost swamping the boat. Very scary to say the least, my buddy said I thought you wanted to fish this cove, I said think god the cove was here or we would have been on the bank. Cable outer jacket snapped at the nut where it mounts to the motor. I don't know how we didn't get thrown out of the boat.
