I'm in the process of replacing the carpet in my 2004 Tracker. Is it necessary to remove the entire cockpit console or can I just carpet the stand itself and then do the sides and flooring around it? Also, I bought the marine carpet adhesive from Cabelas--Is this product good for carpeting aluminum boats? Finallly, what's the best carpet stripper?

Thanks.

A pic might help a little. That's decent glue but DO NOT use too much, it will soak thru and ruin the carpet.

What is this new type of stripper you speak of??? Don't they get rug burns???

Sir it is difficult to tell from that pic and I have zero experience with a Tracker but if it will come up without a giant hassel I'd do it. I unscrewed mine and lifted it enough to get the old out and new in. You may have a time making the necessary cuts otherwise... There are a few guys here with Trackers so someone speakup please..

Good luck

Yeah, I've got the old pieces to use for templates, but now that I'm about halfway through, I wish that I could have had it done but the local marine shops wanted $550 - $800+ to do it. So, I'll give it my best shot but this will be my first and last time for sure. Thanks for all of the feedback.

I just spent a lot of time stripping the old carpet off my 2004 Ranger which I am about to sell.

Two things that worked great for me to strip:

-Citristrip which you can get from Home Depot (Google it for details)
-Razor blade scraper

Paint the Citristrip on with a paintbrush and let soak in overnight. Then go back and easily scrape the old glue off.

Good news is it smells good and is not toxic like some of the strippers.

At times I got it all over my hands without an issue although you should wear rubber gloves.

You can also use a wirebrush drill bit to do some stripping.

Good luck.
