Went to the Trop today with the bride to get some of that schoolie action. Got to the lake about 7:30 and was off by 12. We found fish busting all over the lake. I wouldn't say the top water bite was screaming but if you stayed with it you would catch fish. The bait they were chasing was small, maybe an inch so small would be the ticket. I caught most of mine on a Absolute Rico. Crystal fluke worked as well. The fun of the day came after things slowed down a bit and we headed over by the discharge. I heard fish busting in the reeds so I started throwing the Donkey in the grass and reeds. Game on!! The fish were slamming that frog in 6" of water. I can't think of anything more fun than having that fish blow up on that bait and then having to work him out of heavy cover
.
Now that said, the bad part of the day came after leaving the lake my old boat trailer gave up the ghost and threw a wheel on 1441. We got to the side in Mimi's parking lot and waited on the tow. My boat is now in Bastrop getting the axle replaced
. My wheel and tire? It's still in the chigger patch out by the lake, there was no way I was going hunting for it in chest high cover in shorts and thongs.... You guys with older boats, it's time check the hub nuts on your trailer so this doesn't happen to you. Also, thanks to any and all of you guys that stopped by out there to check on our welfare. Gail and I thank you from our hearts.
