Took the wife out this AM. On the water around 8:30 off at 3:00. First cast I made just to show her how to fluke in the discharge, fish on, then fish off at boat. So she made her first cast, fish on and landed it. 24 fish in the first hour in the discharge. Wife caught one 4lb15oz and was excited, then a few fish later a 5lb5oz and was more excited. Neither were overs and never thought to snap a pic of them, but was great to see her get a couple of nice fish. Mainly sight fishing in the discharge picking up the nice cruisers we saw. Don't think she caught but maybe one or two all day that was smaller than around 2.5 lbs. I was catching most of those!!
Great day on the water with the wife no doubt. Total count 39 fish landed (22 her 17 me), 8 unbuttons near boat for me and 2 for her. She was smokin' 'em!!
After her biggest for the day, she was planning on us to go back next Friday. Hopefully have a good day then as well.

Sounds like a great day. Glad your wife likes to fish.

I've fished all my life, but mostly with my brother and mostly at the coast. Kids just got old enough (10 and 9) that they can handle a lure, have the patience for decent periods of time and not take out everyone out casting so I decided to buy a bass boat this January and start freshwater fishing. Best thing I've ever done...

Wife just likes being on the water, but likes to fish if they're biting and my kids just love it. Have a daughter and a son and the daughter is the more determined of the two. Bastrop was our first good trip where we all caught fish. Son's first fish casting and retrieving a lure was there and it was 3.5 lbs. Daughter had one on at least that big but lost it. Trying to get them to understand how to set the hook on a Texas rigged fluke can be tough, but it's fun to watch them.

They are all hooked now. We make a trip just about every weekend somewhere. The coolest thing is that they are all willing to pack lunch and snacks and stay out there practically all day. At Bastrop, since the water is warm, they love taking a dip in the middle of the day. They love it.
