Belton Results 1 March 2009

Division 52 in Central Texas, March 1st 2009,

Dennis Chafin from Austin Texas, is one step closer to the ABA National Championship with a 1st Place win and $611.00 in the American Fishing Tour bass tournament held on Lake Belton this past weekend. Dennis’s four bass weighed in at 10.76 pounds and were caught using a Watermelon Lizard and Crankbaits in coves and rocky points. Second place and $380 went to James Banks, using Rattletrap and Rattlesnakes Texas Rigged with a weight of 10.34 pounds James also received an additional $250 for owning a Triton purchased at Texas Boat World and $100 for having a Keel-X Keel protector purchased at Line-X of Harker Heights, third place and $141 went to Craig Gilbert from Killeen Texas, with a weight of 7.79 pounds Craig also received an additional $100 for owning a Triton purchased at Texas Boat World and $100 for having a Keel-X Keel protector purchased at Line-X of Harker Heights.

Big bass was awarded was to Joe Isaacs for catching a 4.91 pound Large Mouth.

These anglers are acquiring valuable points to insure their birth in division’s two-day champion and the American Fishing Tour Regional Championship that will be held this fall.

The Top five anglers were:

1. Dennis Chafin 10.76 lbs $611
2. James Banks 10.34 lbs $380 + $250 + $100 Total $ 730

3. Craig Gilbert 7.79 lbs $141 + $100 + $100 Total $ 341

4. Stephen Hampton 7.60 lbs $110

5. Paul Stokes 6.98 lbs $78

There were 30 entries. 26 boaters and 4 non-boaters. Need to get more no-boaters coming out!

Next tourney is March 29th at Stillhouse. To Qualifiy for the Championship on the trail, they take points from your best four qualifying tournaments. The next tournament will be the last chance to start the trail and still get the full 4 tournaments in.

Caught 2 fish on a red rattletrap on the south shore by the dam, but that was about it for me that day. We targeted Smallmouths south in the main lake thinking the river fish would be turned off by the front that came through. The boater that I was with caught 3 keepers, 2 of which were Smallmouths. He missed a big Largemouth that would have put him in the money.
"Cold" and windy morning to say the least.
