firefly and i went to fayette thursday and today. we where flip n some jigs at some timber when this man (as old as the oklahoma state football coach you know a man) and what looked like his father motored up ran into the tree that we wher fish n and tied off. what up with that. i have been to bastrop ( saw yall talk n about this the other day) and have had pepole cut me off but never anything as arrogant as that.
any way it was a good trip. nothing pic worthy but all solid fish. almost every thing on jigs in about 5-10 foot. few bedding up. and i think today is the first time that the wind was not about to blow me out the boat it was great.

Funny you said that about being cut off.........on Travis today I was fishing a bank and was heading in one direction and a boat decided that he was far enough ahead and started to fish.......I am a very non upset person for some reason it bothered me a bit..But then I said oh well and moved to a different place.........Ended up the move was good for fish... anyhow so the next time you feel angry at someone cutting you off you never know it may be a blessing in disguise.....Well thats that have a good day on the water and respect the others around you.........

Glad to hear you had a good day, Fayete is a fun lake. I was fishing Canyon on a blistering cold day one time and was anchored up on a spot with whites beneath me. I was having a great day. I was graphing fish suspended and occaisionally the would come up and I'd catch them on every cast with a rattletrap. I saw 1 other boat on the water all day and he was trolling this long path that would bring him within 10 feet of my boat every 15 minutes or so. Now I always am happy to share wter with other people and would gladly have invited him to anchor up beside me, but every time he would troll through he would push the fish back down and I wouldn't catch another until he had just about made it back around to me. After about the fourth time through I lost my cool and slung that rattletrap right at the aluminum rails on the side of that pontoon!. The resulting sound was incredibly loud and I'm pretty sure he thought I shot at him! Because he ducked down and took off, drove his boat a distance away and got on his cell phone. I cracked the trap right down the center. When I got back to the ramp there were too sheriffs sitting there in the empty parking lot. They watched me load and leave but never said anything. Lol. Some people just don't understand what they are doing. Iv'e had a lot of trouble on Austin lately. Seems like a lot of inexperienced fishermen just run around looking for boats and decide there must be fish there, and some people are just a#$holes. Anyway I'm glad you had a good trip and could fish the other 9,999 trees. ;)

Ah, maybe it's just like Faircloth at Amistad - he's got a magic tree that's just special out of the thousands and thousands of trees down there...

Still doesn't really excuse his discourtesy, tho...

Ben-

Your story reminds me of one time we were fishing the bay and slaying reds in a back lake one Feb.  Almost had our limit and this A-hole in an airboat came up behind us full speed and came across the sand bar between where we were wading and our anchored boats.  We were about 40-50 yds from the boats, he spilt the middle never slowing down and screwed the fishing for about an hour.  Both our group of four guys and the boats were plainly visible.  He was clearly trying to harass us (or show off his boat, but why so close to us when other shallow water was all over the bay?), and for what reason I have know idea.  But I could have easily nailed him with a super spook if I led him about ten feet.  I just wasn't thinking fast enough!  Next time, they won't get away without a hook in the nose!  Good shot with the trap!  Practice makes perfect.

Hi knobby, thanks for the report. Travis wasn't much better on Saturday with regards to the courtesy issue. It was bad enough that one might think Basschamps tournament was actually last weekend and that it wasn't just a practice day for some. I had a guy in little tracker pull up about 25 ft in front of me. Seriously. But he was pointed in my direction so just figured he was headed in the opposite direction. But when I went around the outside of him, he turned around and started heading in the same direction! Pretty unbelievable. Best revenge for that situation is catching fish when they aren't :)

Once I was fishing a team tournament on Red River. The rules stated that you could not be fishing at all, within one hundred yards of another tournament boat unless you got permission from the fisherman who was in the area first, this courtesy rule allowed fishermen to fish the same water, If a dispute occured both or all teams were flatly Disqualified, talk about a courtesy rule, You agreed to it before you fished no agree'ee no fishee. People would abuse it too they figured Oh well nobody will make a ruckus because they will get disqualified. My partner and I were fishing up the East bank of the main river, against the current large tree stumps submerged in the river created current breaks. The current was so strong you had to throw a One ounce plus jig with a large craw trailer or the lure never got deep enough for the bass to see as they were eight plus feet deep. Two guys flew past us upriver, looked over shut her down hopped on the trolling motor and cut us off fishing 50 to 60 feet down the bank in front of us. My partner looked over at me and his face slowly turned beet red, he was red headed and had a temper, I said in a low voice don't worry about it look at what they are throwing, I thought he was going to explode but he never said a word and neither did I. We did however begin to catch Bass after Bass when I caught the big fish that anchored our stringer right in front of the two guys in front who hadn't had a bite it was too much for them they cranked up the big motor and rode away swearing loud enough for us to hear them. Later at the weigh in I good naturedly told the story of the two anglers who "Warmed ' Em up for us" and remarked that they should cut me off in every tournament  because they were my good luck charm. I made sure I said this loudly enough for the two skulkers to hear me and I hope they learned a lesson that day. It's amazing how everyone listens to what you say when you are in the top five of a tournament and not  93rd which is where the two anglers who cut us off that day finished. ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)
