Yamaha trim/tilt motor housing problems, electrolysis
I have had 2 Yamaha motors the last 6 years. Had serious electrolysis problems with trim/tilt motor housing, electrolysis, corrosion, pitting and failure when pin holes leaked water into electric motor. Had no other problems with the motors. Buying and replacing trim motors are not cheap.
Have any of you had electrolysis problems like this?

Hi Jessy, that is a bummer. I wonder if a sacrificial anode is missing or not connected? I suggest that you go here and ask your question.
There are guys there that are actual outboard mechanics that answer motor questions. I've had good luck asking questions on the mercury section.
Does your boat sit the water all the time? I have seen some postings about the lower crankcase on Yamahas just slowly beeing eaten away. I was surprised since Yammie have such a good reputation and cost so much. I have been very happy with my 2000 merc, I fish fresh and salt with it. I went with a guide in La. His 250hp yammy developed a pinhole leak into the cylinder. Rather than spend 10K to fix it he bought a new one.
Makes you wonder if they are not using the right metal formulations.
