So I went to the Home Despot at lunch and was looking for some large galvanized staples for the carpet like the old ones. I could find anything similar. I may just get some galvanized roofing nails to tack down the carpet. What do you guys use?

I had to replace mine last summer. I used PT lumber from home depot and bough some of their indoor outdoor carpet(best deal I could find)then I used some adhesive and roofing nails to stick carpet to lumber. Then I secured them to the trailer w/galvanized lag screws. So far so good.

I need to replace mine as well and have wondered about using plastic 2x4's instead of wood. There are many companies that make them and I have seen some that have a 50yr warranty. unfortunately they are not very cheap. Has anyone ever tried them?

I got a pair for side boards and snapped one trying to straighten it, so I don't think they would have the strength you're looking for.
