Thread: jack plates

Okay, curious about jack plates.
Would a jack plate, say a 10" one, add more stress onto a transom than a 6"?
Why would you want a 10" vs a 6"?
Any idea, other than calling a manufacturer, to tell what the max size plate a boat is recommended to have is?
