    Angry The Elusive "Locking Rear Differential" on Tundra

    So, I've been searching for alternatives to 4WD and had seen all these internet listings on Cars.com and dealer websites of used Tundras with "Locking Rear Differential". It seemed that it was not offered in 2011, but only '08 to '10 per the listings (I was filtering out '07 and older). However, twice I showed up at a dealership to find that the truck listed that way on their website did in fact NOT have that feature. Smelling a rat, I dug around on the Internet and could find no evidence of Toyota ever offering a locking differential on the Tundra for those model years.

    Instead, it seems that those Tundras are using a combination of features, mainly involving actuation of brake pulsation (think antilock without stepping on the brake pedal) to control slippage. This may be somewhat useful, but is certainly NOT a locking differential.

    I'm pretty pissed that I've spent a couple of weeks researching Tundras based on false advertising.

    Does anyone have evidence to the contrary?

    You might already know about these sites but tundrasolutions.com and tundratalk.net are two other places you might wanna take a gander at.

    ABLS = Fail.

    My window sticker said "Limited Slip" so I didn't think twice about it. Come to find out it achieves limited slip with ABLS control of the rear end. Which works AWESOME in wet weather and otherwise traction challenged situations.

    However, the truck has to be moving at about 3mph or better before the computer will activate ABLS, so it is TOTALLY useless on a boat ramp. I still don't have problems pulling boats up ramps, but I do have to pick and choose my ramp.

    GMC/chevy have the only true auto-locking diff. it works as well as a lot of 4x4's do with slippage. there was a demo that i was looking for that had a trailer with rollers on one side and the 2 wheel climbed it better than the 4x4 other trucks.

    Yep, that is the main reason I'm still considering Chevy/GMC.
