Something else... change out your bait catch bucket. Try to keep good clean water in it. Also try to let your baits purge for a couple of minutes. Healthy baits equal quality fish. The devil is in the details. Go getcha some

Thanks Brandon, those are all great tips. Those critters are much easier to keep alive with the cooler temps recently, if you can find them that is. We got into a huge school a couple days ago around Silver Creek and caught around 100 baits in 6 casts, mostly gizzards in the 4-5 inch range but some threadfins too. It was the best luck I've had catching good numbers in a short time in deeper water.

Yeah RO, it was great. The water was pretty calm and we noticed bait fish flicking on the surface. We eased up into them in about 25 fow and caught about a dozen on the first cast. Five more casts yielded from 1-2 dozen each. I wish it was always that easy!

It sounds like my main problem really is overcrowding the baitwell. I also probably didnt purge the unhealthy ones regularly enough. Where did you find the shad keep Brandon?

    Sure Life Shad Keeper

I order it from these guys. I buy the 36lb bucket. I am going to call Sure-Life today and see if I can get it cheaper from them. they are located in Seguin. Anytime you see a bait acting sick get it out of your tank.
