Lake travis catfishing!
Need some info from all the Lake Travis pro Catfishing experts. I fish on a dock where the water is about 40-50 feet deep under the Dock. I regularly catch Channel Cats up to 5-6 lbs.
What kind of bait, and Rigs, can I use to catch larger Cats in water under a dock like this?
Any Advice will help. THANKS

4-6 inch live perch will attract larger yellows and blues. Rig like C-rig but with a 1 oz barrel sinker.

Just tie off a deep line off the dock. Set one long drop line off each corner of dock...With live perch...and continue to fish for channel catfish. Cut Perch also works. But normally big cats like early morning or late evening into the darkness...

I'd set up a jug line of my own design
take a milk jug and poke 2 holes in it to thread line (min of 20lb braid) through then thread your line through and attach one 2 ounce egg sinker peged with a barrel swivel attach a 3-4 ft leader of lighter line and a 2/0 circle hook then hook a live minnow or sunfish greater than 4 inches in length through the TAIL throw it out by swinging it in a circle above your head and throw it out youll know a fish has it when your milk jug starts to move toward you
while waiting for a bite fish your normal wayBeing out there is the fun the fish are just a bonus. I'm a native californian but I lived in Texas for the better part of four years and my heart lives there

Thanks RO, Ranger & CWK for the advice. I will certainly give the live perch and cut bait a try.
I'll also pass along a recipe for Channel Cat dough bait that really works well.
I bought a bag of 20% protein Range Cubes last week from Buck Moore's Feed for chumming around the dock. Miss Sandy came up with a great Dough Bait recipe using the cubes.
She took 2 lbs. of cubes (Let these soak in water over-night to soften), 1 cup of whole wheat flour, 2 cups of bran flakes and 3 tablespoons vanilla extract. Mix these ingredients with enough water to form a pretty stiff dough. Put in containers and refrigerate over-night.
We started using this Dough Bait and the Channels started hitting at all depths.
Thanks Again Guys
