    Braided line, Line twist question?

How do you keep braided line from twisting or can you?

Is it the same things you do for mono?

Sorry if this question has already been asked for braided line, I looked but could not find it. ;D

That really depends on how you are fishing. I dont use braid for freshwater, but I always do in saltwater. I spend a pretty penny on swivels because usually I am using a short leader on my small rod. I dont have a problem with line twist so that may be your answer.

I had my braid cut my finger the other day when I got that blacktip. Do you have issues ever with this? Maybe I just have baby hands...lol

Just kidding, I have cut my hands on it before but only when I was hung up and trying to get my bait undone.

I've never had a problem with line twist on a baitcaster, (I have three with braid in 30,50, and 80lb. Power Pro). I've never used it on a spinning reel.
    I'm curious though, any of ya'll that do, have any problems? :-? :-? :-? :-? :-?

I fought with Power Pro braid on a spinning reel. The line wouldn't stick, it would de-spool after reeling in a cast.

Sounds to me like you either had too much on the spool or did not put a mono backing on it. *If you don't put a backing on it it will keep spinning around the spool after you stop reeling.

I use braid on my spinning rods and don't have problems.

I didn't put any mono backing on it. I had never used braid and didn't realize I needed to spool mono on first, how much mono should be spooled?

Does that apply for Baitcasters also?

You only need enough backing to cover the spool one layer. Maybe 40' or less. I use a small piece of duct tape on the spool first then just braid. This will keep it from spinning on the spool. And yes, baitcasters too.

Don't care much for PowerPro on spinning gear. I use Suffix braid most of the time on all my gear, spinning or casting, with a Seaguar Florocarbon leader tied w/ a uni to uni knot. I have had slight twisting issues chunkin spoons but like suggested by Carped, a swivel solves must of that.

And yea the braid will cut you to the bone if you try to leader a large fish w/o gloves or grab it to break loose a hang up. I use a small dowel rod to do this .

Braid is expensive but it lasts and can be Backspooled easily so you get two uses out of it. Not to mention it casts great on spinning gear, quicker hook sets and no streach are big advantages in certain situations.

Re: Braided line, Line twist question?

I put some braid on one of my spinning reels yesterday and took it to one of the ponds close to my house. I wanted to try out a new bait I came up with. I did not use a backing of any kind and I did not have any problems. After what you guys have said, I am going to go home and take all of the line off and put a backing on it. What is the best knot to use for mono-to-braid? A link would be nice ;D

Thanks for the help guys. I did catch one fish on my new little bait and had a few other hits.

What happens sometimes Chris is the line will slide around the spool, usually w/ a large fish on and you can't reel her in. I'd say respool w/ some backer when you get a chance.

I use the uin to uni knot heres a link.
