I can relate to RO...I too giggle like a girl when I catch a big flat head on an ultralight when fishing for crappie.

Nice report and pictures. I am fairly new to fishing Lake Travis. Is the jigging spoon pretty successful at pulling fish from deep waters? I launch at mile marker 26. Is the best stripper and white bass fishing near the dam or further up river?

I believe marker 26 is near Briarcliff. I'd head across lake and graph the sandy point over there, looking for bait balls, then graphing for arches on the point around that same depth. "Deep" is a relative term. If you mean 20-40 fow, then yes, the slabs or jigging "spoons" are effective for whites (and occasional "strippers" on Travis) at those depths. When jigging lake trout (up north), then "deep" means 180-220 fow. When fishing trout and reds at the coast, then more than 3 feet is "deep."

Look for thermocline (signal on graph usually representing tiny invertebrates or zooplankton/phytoplankton) or bait that layers up at one depth band. If you have a temp-down meter (thermometer) then you can find the thermocline easily, as the transition between warm and cool water. If not, go by the band of signal on the graph. The bait (shad) and predators usually hang around that same depth and use the bottom to pen their pray there and feed.

Applied Research Labs of UT maintains a water temperature profile chart on its website that tells you exactly what the water temperature is on Lake Travis, down to 60 ft.

    Current LTTS Weather Readings

I check this every now and then. This time of the year the temp is pretty much the same from the surface down to 60 feet. I bet it's similar on all of our area lakes. Even in the summer the temp change wasn't dramatic. If I remember correctly it was a few degrees at the thermocline.
