Striper Spawn???
When do the Striper start their spawn? Also, do they go up into the Colorado and spawn in the shallow like the whites do? I thought I heard somewhere that they go up river in January???

Re: Striper Spawn???
Striper need brackish water to spawn, as far as I know, they don't reproduce in any freshwater lakes, they are just replaced with stocking efforts.

Re: Striper Spawn???
The only lake in Texas that Striper spawn successfully is Texoma. However they will go through the motions the eggs just won't fertilize. Striper need a minimum of 15 mioes of river current to fertilze the egg. The colorado isn't deep enough and the current not swift enough for them to be successful. I do know that the stripers will start migrating to the northern end of the lake in the coming weeks. Not sure how far up the river they actually go.

Did not know it had to do with current, thought it was salinity. You learn something every day! Now that I think about it, I had heard they reproduced in Texoma before.

Re: Striper Spawn???
I love that they sure do get mad at those top water baits in the shallows during this "going thru the motions" period. It really makes my heart skip a beat!

Re: Striper Spawn???
There have been documented spawns on Whitney and Toledo Bend? I thought only Texoma had spawns, at least in Texas.

Re: Striper Spawn???
Thanks for all of the info guys. So, does anyone know if and when they will start to move out of Lake Buchanan and up into the river? Also, if they do move up river, how far up do they try and go? I am hoping for some action between now and when the whites start making their move. Thanks again for the help.
