Just got my first kayak
I didn't spring for a fishing model because I figured some of the upgrades could be purchased pretty inexpensively.
What do I need to turn my Manatee into a fishing yak?
Also...I know that water's cold right now. Do y'all just use waders to keep it off your b's & a?
So far, I'm thinking I need:
A paddle clip
A rod mount
probably some carabiners to attach crap like the life vest and whatnot.
Can you attach the rod mount without effing up the yak? (little bolt holes don't count as effing up unless they're under the water line, right?)
Any help is tremendously appreciated.yak.jpg

Congratulations on the new boat..you will find enough ideas on the sites above to make your boat into a fishing machine.

Welcome to the madness
Take that baby out a few times before you start attaching things, that way you'll know for sure where you want them.
Attaching rod holders is super easy. I drill mine in and use silicone to seal the nut and washer. I know of some people who even just use adhesive.
and the water is not that cold, that is a SIT so you'll be snug as a bug and dry too.

That's awesome man , I've been the owner of a not so new yak for about a year now . I love it very much and have taken it to Travis, lake Austin, ladybird , decker, and the colorado river . I fish quite a bit from it , and I need to start doing some reports on here for all these amazing helpful guys on this forum. I plan on doing even more now as I am about to acquire a nice yak from mrtodd! Hell yea! If u ever have any questions on where to put in or some good places, or just wanna go fishin just shoot me a pm .

So...I bought most everything I need to get started out there on the water....BUT...my paddle clips I picked up say they should be 36 inches apart. The problem with this is that my hull isn't really flat on any part and the base of the clips are flat as Kansas. I think I could probably mount them much closer than the 36 inches and get a more solid base, but don't know if that's going to create issues with the ability of the clips to hold. Looking at it logically, I can't see any reason why it'd not work, but thought I'd check with people that have more experience than I do. I just don't want my bolts to be sticking out and exposed to water any more than they need to be.
