Nine foot six inch rattlesnake killed near Waco

Got this pic forwarded from RWNitro and he asked me to post up the pic. Don't know the story yet, but will try to find the report and add it too.

I'm not trying to be insulting but that doesnt look 9' he is holding it out on a piece of wood to make it look a lot bigger than it is. Still not something I want to tangle with.

Yeah I did a google search and found about 5 other 9 ft rattlesnake pics from various locations all with a similar presentation, although they all look like different snakes. I couldn't find the original Channel 25 report from Feb 23, 2013 to go with it, but I'll keep looking. Looks big enough to have a snake fry though!

It looks really big with a guy who is 5'0"... Makes the snake from Bertram look like a night crawler.

with it held out it's twice as long as that guy is tall, if you know what I'm saying. I believe it's 9ft.
That's a monster. I tailed one that was about 8 ft and that was one intimidating animal. And I have handled 15ft reticulated pythons. I would still rather hold the python over the rattler any day!

I ran over and killed a 6 and a half footer years ago. I was taught to cut the head off with a shovel and bury it. This thing with its head cut off still bit the shovel and left wet marks from the venom. I would say it was thicker than a fire-mans hose. Please no fire-mans hose jokes...

Snakes, even rattlers, are just trying to make a living. Just like you and me.

I hear you Carl. When I was growing up, my Dad taught us to always kill poisonous snakes when we saw them. I collected some rattles that way, but over time, I've questioned that policy, and now I don't kill every one I see. If they're close to the house and the kids are at risk for getting bit, then I could see that they'd be better of not causing a risk. But if I'm out in the woods and find one not messing with me, I don't mess with them. I know, I'm getting soft in many ways...

I'd say you're being smart. Nothing gained in killing a snake, venomous or not, if it's in it's own habitat, doing its thing.
