Fishing Pier on Lady Bird - Let's do this!

I try not to ask for too much from you all, but I think as a fishing community in Austin, this is one we could really rally behind! A wheel chair accessable fishing pier on Lady Bird near the launch behind Holiday Inn. After all, it's the carp fishing capital! The dock would include fishing structures, lights, the whole nine. (drawings on the website) The funds raised are not only for the construction but also an account set aside for repairs. Super cool and the city has already approved the project! The hard part is over as far as I am concerned! If nothing else, a great place to tie off your boat or yak to load and unload!

Hmm...I love the idea but where the heck is everybody supposed to park?

I don't see any increased parking in the plans or drawings. Just try and find a parking spot now in that area any day the sun is shining and it's over 70 degrees. And yes the weekends are worse.

It's really a wonderful thing, but how are are the folks in wheelchairs going to get close enough to use it?

Sayyyy wait a minute....do the plans call for marking a bunch of the parking in that area as handicapped only?

Nj- That was one of my concerns... She said that the hotel would allow parking and bathroom use for the handicapped. As well as on the east side of the highway there is some parking. Eventually, there will have to be parking added. That's one of those items that we will have to run into and figure out should it be a success... Maybe a phase 2

Sounds good, just sucks that they are making it by Holiday Inn. It's the most crime riddled launch area on LBL. I try to avoid parking there as much as possible.

Personally, I have never had any problems there... But the way it was presented to me and I am looking at it; the more activity and positive activity that is in the area, the less likely there will be crime activity. If there are consistently people coming and going and fishing and enjoying, the bad guys would probably be more likely to steer away. A good way to keep the bad out and bring the good in-
Also, I am not a "play maker" on this project... I am just an angler from Austin Texas that strives in bringing more awareness and most importantly, involvment to the game we play, fishing. I love it and want to share it, show it off, make it available for everyone... It's what we do as outdoorsman, right?
And yes, it was approved many months ago and is currently in the fundraising phase. I think she said the goal was 400G's (includes construction, maintence, bills, permits, etc. for many years) and currently they are almost a 1/4 of the way there.
