Do Your Pecans Look Like This?
I've got a couple of trees on my property. This is what's currently coming down. The trees seem to be really healthy - I've gotten decent rains from them before and I'm not sure why this crop didn't mature fully or why it seems like those nuts have run into a little army with a taste for them... but whatever it is, it seems to be happening to all of the nuts I've got on those trees.

My brother has a Pecan orchard of well over 500 trees. I'l see what he has going on this year. Maybe it is the lack of water and heat. He has watering lines to each of his trees so he can water if needed. And he also sprays which helps.

With all the veggies stressing, it might be a suck year for nuts.
Check out the acorn crop. Pitful. Wildlife is gonna be hurtin'.

Hmm yeah, but in years past, it's usually been either a feast or famine thing. With those nuts, it seems like there's a wide range of possibilities involved: disease, infestation, and/or whatnot...
Appreciate all of your input/thoughts. Looking forward to seeing what further discovery brings.Toads for breakfast=> lunch and dinner!!!

Are your trees native trees or grafted? Irrigated or non-irrigated?

Btw, I try to water them regularly, but didn't do that as much as I would've liked to over the summer.Toads for breakfast=> lunch and dinner!!!

Native pecans are much smaller than a pecan that you would buy. On a good year with good rains, native pecans aren't much larger than the size of your thumb. I'd bet there is a pretty good chance yours are natives. I bet the only reason you got the funky small pecans is because you watered them. Otherwise, probably wouldn't be any. The trees I have are not even making pecans and lost all their foliage in August. To be expected with this being the worst drought on record
